Summer Service Site

Service site in the countryside

The service site is situated in the village of Yppäri, in the southern part of the municipality of Pyhäjoki in the heart of Northern Ostrobothnia. The municipal center of Pyhäjoki is ten kilometers to the north, and Oulu is 100 kilometers away. Oulainen is 45 kilometers inland.

The service site is located on the right side of the Mehtäkyläntie road from coastal route 8 to Alavieska.

The main service area lies on fields with underground drainage, a few open drainage ditches, and small patches of woods. Nevertheless, it is a continuous area and the lodging areas are adjacent to the main service area.

The Yppäri region is a rural environment close to nature, with cultivated farms and cattle farms. Yppäri also has other types of business operation and some residents are employed in the neighboring municipalities. The village has its own elementary school.

The views and expertise of the landowners have been taken into consideration in the planning of the main service area. The entrance roads have been reinforced and a few junctions within the area have been upgraded already during the summer of 2013. A road network will be built within the area prior to the services. Preparatory work related to the land areas, road posts, and waterlines was done in the autumn of 2013; actual construction volunteer work in the area will begin in April 2014.

 Surroundings

The village of Yppäri is situated in Pyhäjoki, a municipality with a population of 3,000 located between Raahe and Kalajoki. As it is a coastal village along the Gulf of Bothnia, the livelihoods of its residents have always been related to seafaring and fishing. The ancient border between Sweden and Novgorod is thought to have passed through Pyhäjoki’s Hanhikivi. In recent years Pyhäjoki has been in the public eye as the location of Fennovoima’s future atomic power plant.
