ENTERING THE SITE

The Summer Service site is located 10 km south of the center of Vaasa in the open field of Söderfjärden. The service site will be opened for service guests at 9:00 am on Wednesday, June 24th, after which you can stay at the site in a camper and car or tent.

There is a plan for filling up the accommodation at the service site in order to allow all service guests to get to their lodging site as safely and smoothly as possible. Service guests must follow the instructions given by traffic officers. It is not possible to reserve spaces in advance and if you want to camp next to someone, you must arrive at the site together and consecutively in line.

RECOMMENDED DRIVING ROUTES FROM DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS

When starting your trip, you can select “Vaasa” as your navigation destination. As you approach Vaasa, regardless of which direction, there will be road signs which service guests are requested to follow. The traffic committee has mapped out routes for entering from every locality, taking into consideration the number of members in Associations of Peace. The shortest route is not necessarily the fastest, so please follow the instructions below and become familiar with the enclosed map.

North - northeast

The majority of service guests will arrive from the north via Kokkola on Highway 8 to Vaasa. We will try to direct as many guests as possible coming from the north to drive directly through the center of Vaasa to the service site. If the center of Vaasa becomes congested due to local (commuter) traffic and from the simultaneous arrival of a large number of service guests, there are signs showing the way to an alternate route alongside the city center. To minimize traffic in the city center, the traffic committee requests that as many guests as possible who are approaching Vaasa from the north and northeast would choose the alternate entry route, which is possibly a little longer but smoother at many periods of time when guests are arriving: When beginning your trip: select Alajärventie 100, LAPUA as a waypoint and VAASA as the final destination for your navigation destination.

This inland goes from Liminka on Highway 86 to Ylievieska, from where you don’t don’t continue on to Kannus and Kokkola but instead take Highway 63 to Kauhava and from there to Laihia and Vaasa via Lapua. Visitors who take this route will join the route used by visitors coming from the East and Southeast at Lapua or at the latest in Laihia. Signs to the service site will begin immediately before the start of the Vaasa highway (VT3). Please use this inland route especially if you begin your service trip from the following localities: Haapajärvi, Haapavesi, Kajaani, Kärsämäki, Nivala, Oulainen, Pyhäntä, Sievi, Siikalatva, Toholampi, Vihanti, Ylivieska.

South

The smallest number of visitors will come from the south on Highway 8. This route has the least congestion from local traffic, so it should be possible to get to the service site along this route at all arrival times smoothly. Signs to the service site begin at the point where you turn from Highway 8 west toward Maalahti. The traffic committee requests that visitors who live in south Finland would not come along Highway 3 north toward Tampere but instead would drive to PORI first and from there toward Vaasa along Highway 8. This route is only a few kilometers longer. Please use this route if you are from the following localities: Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi, Pornainen, Porvoo. Others who live in southern Finland are also advised to go from Highway 3 to Highway 8: At KURIKKA go west from Highway 3 (Road 689) toward JURVA and you will come to Highway 8 when you drive onward from there toward Vaasa.

East - Southeast

The East – southeast route refers to service guests whose shortest route to Vaasa goes through Laihia. Guests who are headed to this route live in Central and Eastern Finland. Some visitors coming from the north will be requested to take this route and service guests leaving from the very south of Finland will be asked to move from this route to the southern route.

BUSIEST ARRIVAL TIMES

The traffic committee has drawn up a forecast of the number of vehicles arriving based largely on the vehicle count of previous summer services. Approximately 18,000 vehicle units are expected to arrive at the service site; these include caravans with their towing vehicle (AV), motorhomes (AA), tents (T), housing buses (AS-LA) and cars (P).

The largest flow of arriving summer service guests is expected to be from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am on Wednesday and Thursday between 4:00 pm and 12:00 am. The highest number of volunteers have been asked to work during this periods of time to direct service guests safely and smoothly to their camping site. The traffic committee assumes that there will be less traffic coming at night, as has been the case in previous summer services. There also fewer volunteers working at night. Please do not begin driving to summer services at night when you are tired.

The service site is surrounded by a network of roads so that service guests can be directed to the area and camping fields along several alternative routes. The filling plan takes into account the arrival of service guest at all times from three different directions. Furthermore the filling of special areas (invalid area, housing buses, organisation area, rental camper area) has been considered from every direction of arrival.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CAMPING AND MOVING ABOUT THE SUMMER SERVICE AREA

When you camp at the service site, follow the instructions given regarding your vehicle. Make sure that you leave a four meter drive path free in front of your camp site.

• Make sure that campers know the location of the fire extinguisher in the camper or motorhome, and know how to use it.

Walking is the only permissible way to move around at the service site. Please use routes that are designated for walking and called paths (polku). Please let load-bearing gravel roads be used for filling and service traffic. Please be considerate of others when camping and moving about.  The service site is closed to vehicle traffic except for incoming filling traffic for the duration of the night from 1:00 am to 6:00 am.

There is a large number of ditches protected by fences at the service site. For safety reasons, the protective fences must remain intact. Entering the hay barns located on the service site is prohibited.
